Sui Launches Tidehunter Database to Enhance SSD Performance

Sui has introduced the Tidehunter database, designed to optimize modern SSD performance and minimize competition in the write path. According to Foresight News, all write operations are processed through a high-speed, lock-free write-ahead log (WAL), capable of handling millions of operations per second. Tidehunter utilizes writable memory-mapped files instead of system calls for each write. Persistence is managed asynchronously by background service threads, which handle file growth management and periodic synchronization. Additionally, Tidehunter employs a dedicated uniform lookup index to reduce read latency on critical paths.
