Hong Kong Customs Uncovers Major Precious Metals Smuggling Case

Hong Kong Customs has recently uncovered two air freight smuggling cases at Hong Kong International Airport, seizing approximately 168 kilograms of suspected gold flakes and about 285 kilograms of suspected silver flakes. According to ChainCatcher, the estimated market value of these items is around HKD 230 million, marking the largest recorded smuggling case of precious metals by customs. Under Hong Kong's Import and Export Ordinance, smuggling is considered a serious offense. Anyone found guilty of importing or exporting unmanifested cargo can face a maximum penalty of a HKD 2 million fine and seven years in prison.
