The Ethereum Foundation has released a statement detailing its vision for the future of Layer 1 (L1) and Layer 2 (L2) ecosystems. According to PANews, the foundation emphasizes that as the ecosystem evolves, the primary goal of Layer 2 has shifted from merely scaling Ethereum to offering differentiated functionalities, customized services, innovation, and decentralized control.
Ethereum's Layer 1 will continue to serve as a permissionless, resilient global settlement layer, shared state layer, and DeFi liquidity hub, while achieving significant scalability through zero-knowledge technology. Layer 2 is expected to focus on strategies that complement Layer 1, developing its own ecosystem through differentiated positioning and extending Ethereum's core attributes to a broader user base.
The Ethereum Foundation is committed to enhancing Layer 1's scalability, improving liquidity access efficiency, supporting Layer 2 in deepening privacy, security, and trustless attributes, and investing in native Rollup technology to achieve synchronous composability. The foundation will also collaborate with entities like L2Beat to monitor Layer 2 security attributes and work with ecosystem stakeholders to address the challenges of a multi-chain ecosystem.
