Japan's Aegis Destroyer Completes Upgrade to Launch Tomahawk Missiles

A ceremony was held at the U.S. Navy base in San Diego, California, on Thursday to commemorate the completion of upgrades to the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force's Aegis destroyer, Chokai. According to Ming Pao, this marks the first time a Japanese escort vessel has been equipped with the capability to launch Tomahawk cruise missiles. Japanese officials emphasized that the current security environment is increasingly severe, and possessing the ability to launch Tomahawk missiles will enhance the deterrence power of the U.S.-Japan alliance.
