According to CNBC, the U.S. House is expected to vote Tuesday on a stopgap spending measure that would fund the government through Dec. 11 and avert a shutdown this fall ahead of the 2026 midterm election. The Senate passed the legislation in August before its summer recess, and without approval government funding is set to lapse at the end of the federal fiscal year on Sept. 30. House leadership plans to use the suspension of the rules process, which requires a two-thirds vote and would need Democratic support in the narrowly divided chamber. Members of the House Freedom Caucus have raised objections to the bill and the process, with Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, citing funding for Planned Parenthood and the lack of a ban on hemp products containing THC. Rep. Andy Harris, R-Md., told Punchbowl News he would vote to block the rest of the GOP's agenda for the week over his opposition to the measure.
