According to Axios, House Democrats were caught off guard Tuesday after Reps. Jared Golden of Maine and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington joined Republicans to pass a key procedural vote 210-208. The House approved a rule setting debate terms for a package of bills, including a resolution condemning socialism and the Northeast Lobsterman Protection Act, which Golden co-leads. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said he did not get a heads-up from either lawmaker, and House Minority Whip Katherine Clark's office said it also was not notified. Golden said he does not really do whip calls and said the lobsterman bill was one of his top priorities. Pelosi said she was disappointed the rule was allowed to fail, while rank-and-file Democrats directed much of their anger at Golden and Gluesenkamp Perez. Eight Democrats were absent for the vote, compared with six Republicans.
