According to Odaily, the Brazilian Supreme Court has ordered the immediate shutdown of Elon Musk's social media platform X after Musk refused to appoint a legal representative for the platform in Brazil. This ruling concludes a prolonged dispute between Musk and Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who has been leading efforts to combat fake news and hate speech, arguing that such content undermines Brazil's democracy. Musk and conservative figures, including former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, have accused the judge of overstepping his authority and infringing on free speech.
On August 18, Moraes issued an order to freeze the bank accounts of Starlink, compelling the company to pay fines related to X. In an appeal submitted last Friday, Starlink Brazil requested the Supreme Court to revoke the order, arguing that its internet business is not connected to the case against X.
