According to Odaily, the U.S. Treasury Department has confirmed that personnel from the Government Efficiency Department (DOGE), sent by Elon Musk, have been granted 'read-only' access to its sensitive $5 trillion payment system. This access is part of an ongoing review, and no payments have been paused or denied as a result. This information was disclosed in a letter to lawmakers, marking the first detailed explanation of the role DOGE staff play in the operations of the Bureau of Fiscal Service.
An unnamed official stated in the letter sent Tuesday evening that the ongoing review of the Treasury's systems does not affect the payment instructions submitted by other federal agencies to the Treasury. Specifically, the review has not delayed or altered payments for obligations such as Social Security and Medicare.
The letter represents the Treasury's first public acknowledgment and explanation of the involvement of Tom Krause, CEO of Cloud Software Group, who is associated with DOGE. In recent weeks, Krause has been identified as a central figure in securing access to the payment system, a move ultimately approved by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
The letter further explains that Krause is now an employee of the Treasury, with 'read-only access to the coded data of the fiscal service payment system' to continue the operational efficiency assessment.
