During a meeting with the SEC's cryptocurrency task force, led by Commissioner Hester Peirce, a16z emphasized that such guidance could prevent the trend of issuing tokens exclusively to non-U.S. citizens. This trend, they argue, effectively transfers the ownership of U.S.-developed blockchain technology overseas.
