South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb issued a statement saying that it has recently been receiving phishing text messages and emails impersonating "compensation notices for Bitcoin misdelivery incidents," attempting to steal users' personal information and assets. The official statement emphasizes that as of 18:00 on February 12, 2026, the platform has not sent any individual notifications related to "compensation payments" or "victim status inquiries." Bithumb states that future compensation-related notifications will not contain URL links, will only be communicated through official customer service, and will not request users to provide sensitive information such as account details, passwords, or authentication information. The official statement reminds users not to click on any compensation-related links and to be wary of information containing keywords such as "compensation" or "victim inquiries." If you encounter suspected fraud or have already suffered losses, you should immediately report it to the police and request your account to be frozen. Bithumb also emphasizes that the platform will not request personal information via text message or email, nor will it ask users to transfer out cryptocurrency assets.
