U.S. Treasury Secretary Matt Bessenter stated that President Trump plans to raise the general global tariff from 10% to 15%, a move likely to be implemented this week. In an interview with CNBC, Bessenter responded to a question about when the tariffs would be raised to 15%, saying, "Most likely sometime this week." Last month, Trump implemented the 10% general tariff after the Supreme Court overturned much of his previous tariff regime. Bessenter noted that the authorization period for the new tariffs is only 150 days. He stated that during this period, the U.S. trade department will seek to utilize other legislative means to reinstate tariff regimes that were in effect before the Supreme Court ruling. (Jinshi)
