According to The Information, citing sources familiar with the matter, ByteDance has suspended the global release of its video generation model, Seedance 2.0, following copyright disputes with several Hollywood studios and streaming platforms. Disney previously sent ByteDance a cease and desist letter, accusing it of using Disney characters without permission to train the Seedance 2.0 model and claiming that ByteDance pre-installed a library of copyrighted characters from IPs such as Star Wars and Marvel on the model. ByteDance released the model in February of this year, originally planning a global rollout in mid-March. Currently, its legal team is investigating potential legal issues, and engineers are adding protective mechanisms to prevent the model from generating content that could infringe on intellectual property rights.
