The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Saturday that a teaching hospital in El Daein, the capital of East Darfur, Sudan, was struck by a military drone attack on Friday night. According to Ming Pao, the attack resulted in 64 fatalities, including 13 children, and injured 89 others. The hospital's pediatric, obstetrics, and emergency departments were damaged, rendering the facility non-operational.
Sudan has been embroiled in a civil war since April 2023. The East Darfur region is currently under the control of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a Sudanese paramilitary group. The RSF accused the government forces of carrying out the attack on the hospital, a claim that the government forces have denied. However, the Associated Press reported that two government military officers indicated the intended target was a nearby police station.
