In an interview with ABC News on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump said the US might seek a "joint venture" with Iran to secure the Strait of Hormuz. This came after Trump announced a two-week ceasefire agreement with Iran on Tuesday. When asked whether he would allow Iran to charge tolls for ships passing through the strategic waterway, Trump said he was considering a joint venture to secure the strait. Trump also stated that he would not allow Iran to retain any uranium enrichment capabilities and that US troops in the region would remain to implement future agreements. Trump said peace talks were expected to begin on Friday and would proceed quickly, while acknowledging China's key role in negotiations with Iran. Previously, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz would be possible through coordination with the Iranian armed forces and consideration of technological limitations.
