According to a source familiar with the matter, the U.S. Treasury Department's technology team is seeking access to Anthropic's Mythos artificial intelligence model to begin searching for system vulnerabilities. The source stated that Treasury Chief Information Officer Sam Cocos aims to gain access to the model as soon as possible (possibly this week). Anthropic has previously only made the model available to a limited number of institutions. The source said Cocos briefed the Treasury's cybersecurity team on the technology last week and instructed them to prepare for the potential ultimate threat posed by powerful AI systems. Treasury Secretary Bessant and Federal Reserve Chairman Powell convened an emergency meeting with Wall Street leaders last week, expressing concerns that the Mythos model could usher in an era of higher cybersecurity risks. Anthropic has warned that the model could be capable of supporting cyberattacks if companies do not test it on their own systems and establish defenses before widespread release. (Jinshi)
