According to sources familiar with the matter, Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama plans to meet as early as this week with major domestic banks and other financial institutions to discuss Anthropic's new AI model, Mythos. The company has previously claimed the model is powerful enough to launch sophisticated cyberattacks. Katayama will reportedly meet with major Japanese financial institutions, including Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, and Mizuho Financial Group. The sources requested anonymity because the information is not publicly available. Japan's Financial Services Agency declined to comment on the planned meetings. Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of Australia is also closely monitoring developments regarding the Mythos AI model, stating in a statement that it is "communicating with other regulators, government agencies, and regulated entities." The statement also noted that "the Reserve Bank of Australia will continue to assess the impact of these technological advancements, together with its peer regulators and government agencies, to ensure the continued security and resilience of the financial system."
