Last Sunday, Republican Senator Thom Tillis withdrew his opposition to the confirmation process for Kevin Warsh's nomination as Federal Reserve Chair following the conclusion of a Department of Justice investigation into current Chair Jerome Powell. According to Odaily, the Senate Banking Committee voted 13 to 11 in favor of advancing Warsh's nomination to a full Senate vote. The vote is scheduled for April 29 at 10 a.m. Eastern Time.
On the same day, the Federal Open Market Committee will announce its latest interest rate decision. Current Chair Jerome Powell will host what may be his final press conference after leading the Federal Reserve for eight years. Powell's term as Chair ends on May 15, but his term as a board member continues until January 31, 2028. Whether Powell will also leave the Federal Reserve Board is a key focus for the market.
