According to CoinDesk, more than a third of the 535 senators and representatives in the U.S. Congress, or 196 members, received campaign support from FTX and its executives. Including new House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif) and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.). CoinDesk reached out to all 196 lawmakers to ask what they would do with the money. 64% of the politicians who responded said they would hand it over to charity. Thirty-eight percent said they were holding the money and awaiting guidance on how to return it, where it could be put into a fund to compensate FTX victims. Only five politicians said they had successfully returned the money. Of the 196 members of Congress who received campaign donations from former FTX executives, 73 percent did not respond to CoinDesk’s request for comment.
