According to Yonhap News Agency, the Korean Prosecutor’s Office has purchased research services on “virtual asset securities and protection of victims’ laws and directions.” To review the security of virtual assets (cryptocurrency), this service will last until November 2023. The main content is to analyze the main crime types and regulatory trends of virtual assets in Korea and abroad, and provide a basis for exercising the national punishment power. Among them, for virtual assets that are deemed to be of a securities nature, the capital market law can be applied to accuse them of violations, which is expected to increase the prison sentence and make it easier to recover criminally obtained assets.
