Ethereum L2 project Fhenix announced that it has partnered with EigenLayer to develop FHE coprocessors to introduce fully homomorphic encryption (FHE) into smart contracts. A coprocessor is an additional processor designed to perform specialized tasks in a more efficient way than a central processing unit. The FHE coprocessor is characterized by the ability to perform calculations on encrypted data without first decrypting the information, ensuring that sensitive and complex computing tasks are not processed on Ethereum or subsequent Layer 2 or Layer 3, but by designated processors. In addition, the FHE coprocessor will provide a more efficient way to process encrypted data without exposing personal information, thereby unlocking new use cases on the blockchain. (Blockworks)
