The Swedish government investigation found that cryptocurrency miners owed more than $90 million in taxes over four years and will pursue them.
The Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) investigated the operations of 21 cryptocurrency mining companies between 2020 and 2023. The investigation showed that 18 cryptocurrency mining companies submitted "misleading or incomplete" information to benefit from tax incentives.
According to the agency, some crypto companies provided misleading business descriptions to avoid paying value-added tax (VAT) on taxable businesses, while others took advantage of methods to avoid paying import taxes on mining machines or income tax on mining income. (Cointelegraph)
