In its annual analysis of the latest cyber threats in the EU, Europol revealed that the number of AI-driven cybercrimes is expected to rise.
In its 2024 Internet Organized Crime Threat Assessment (IOCTA), Europol noted how AI tools enable non-technical people to plan sophisticated online crimes. AI-generated deep fakes and false ads are widely used by bad actors around the world to target potential victims. The emergence of these tools is actively lowering the barrier to entry for cybercrime. Therefore, Europol believes that it is necessary to equip tools to combat the abuse of technology and protect the EU financial system. (Cointelegraph)
