Vice President Harris will balance the desire for the U.S. to surpass other countries in artificial intelligence with the need to protect people from deep fakes and other harmful uses, her advisers said Tuesday.
"She has always believed that the United States must maintain its global competitiveness in artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies," said Harris' brother-in-law Tony West. He has been helping Harris' campaign.
But West went on to say that the technology's potential to create false images and audio, which can then be used to deceive and defraud people, must also be addressed, saying it is Harris' primary concern as a former prosecutor and state attorney general. West is also the current senior vice president and chief legal officer of Uber. (Politico)
