The UAE has requested consular services for Telegram CEO Pavel Durov, who was arrested in France on Saturday in connection with a cybercrime investigation.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement: "The UAE is closely following the case of its citizen, Telegram founder Pavel Durov, who was arrested by French authorities at Paris-Le Bourget Airport. The UAE has made a request to the French authorities to urgently provide him with all necessary consular services."
Durov was born in Russia and moved to Dubai (where Telegram is headquartered) in 2017. He became a UAE citizen in February 2021 and also naturalized as a French citizen in August 2021, obtaining EU citizenship. (Bitcoin.com)
