The team behind the meme coin "Uptober" accused crypto influencer Jaypeg of running a promotion scam. Jaypeg allegedly received tokens to promote the project and denied receiving funds after selling the tokens.
Members of the Uptober team and the Telegram team said they reached an agreement with Jaypeg to promote the meme coin in exchange for 2% of the Uptober supply, worth about $2,200.
Jaypeg accepted the deal in a Telegram post and received the funds, but he immediately deleted the recipient addresses posted to the group, claiming that they were random and did not belong to him.
The team contacted on-chain detective ZachXBT for investigation, and ZackXBT provided some evidence that contradicted Jaypeg's claims and said that the receiving address holding about $2,200 in Uptober tokens began with "8jpz1p", which was the same address that claimed the airdrop through the Solana Saga smartphone on January 10, 2024, and just a few hours ago, Jaypeg released the Solana Saga unboxing video and mentioned the airdrop.
Jaypeg insisted that the wallet address posted in the Telegram group was a "random address", which prompted him to delete the message with the address from the Telegram group. He also claimed that the Uptober team tried to blackmail him and publicly apologized that the money was donated to charity. (Cointelegraph)
