According to people familiar with the matter, Metaverse, a subsidiary of Alibaba Group Holding, has recently laid off dozens of employees, and both teams in Hangzhou and Shanghai have been affected. In response to this news, a person related to Metaverse said, "Since Metaverse has completed the construction of Metaverse infrastructure, the focus of business has shifted to Metaverse applications. Under this goal, the organization has made corresponding adjustments." According to people familiar with the matter, the current Ali Metaverse team is mainly focused on two directions: one is to deepen the tourism and industrial Metaverse, cooperate with leading manufacturing companies to create model cases; the second is to integrate cloud gaming capabilities into Alibaba Cloud as an important component of cloud computing. It is reported that Metaverse is a brand of real-time cloud rendering, meta-application computing technology and Metaverse services founded by Alibaba Group. It is China's Metaverse cloud streaming operating system and application computing architecture for the next generation of the Internet. During the Metaverse boom in 2021, Alibaba established a wholly-owned subsidiary "Metaverse Shengsheng" with a registered capital of 10 million yuan to focus on Metaverse-related businesses.
