Trump is preparing to appoint a longtime supporter and former cryptocurrency CEO to his cabinet. Trump is reportedly expected to appoint Kelly Loeffler, a former senator and former CEO of cryptocurrency company Bakkt, as Secretary of Agriculture. Loeffler will also serve as co-chair of Trump's inaugural committee.
However, on Saturday afternoon, Trump formally nominated Brooke Rollins as the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture. She is the CEO of the American Policy Priorities Institute, which has ties to Trump's transition team.
According to CNN, "Loeffler and the transition team had several discussions about the position. But Trump did not announce his choice for Secretary of Agriculture amid a series of other announcements on Friday night, raising questions about whether Loeffler ultimately got the job."
Loeffler served as Bakkt's CEO since its inception in 2018 until she was appointed to the Senate by Georgia Republican Governor Brian Kemp in 2019. Bakkt reported $780 million in revenue and a net loss of $226 million in 2023, though that revenue figure is a significant increase from just $56 million in 2022. (CNN)
