Google (GOOG.O) CEO Sundar Pichai said about its newly released quantum computing chip Willow that Willow is an important step in building a useful quantum computer, which has practical applications in drug discovery, fusion energy, battery design and other fields. Its breakthrough can reduce errors exponentially as we use more quantum bits, cracking the 30-year challenge in this field.
In the benchmark test, Willow completed a "standard benchmark calculation" in less than five minutes, while even the fastest supercomputer today would take "10 to the power of 25" years to complete this calculation - a number far exceeding the age of the universe.
