Google asks FTC to terminate exclusive cloud service agreement between Microsoft and OpenAI

Google recently asked the U.S. government to unwind Microsoft’s exclusive agreement to host OpenAI technology on its cloud servers, according to people familiar with the matter. The conversation came after the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), one of the main federal antitrust enforcement agencies, asked Google about Microsoft’s business practices as part of a broader investigation. Companies that compete with Microsoft in renting cloud servers, including Google and Amazon, want to host OpenAI’s artificial intelligence themselves so that their cloud customers don’t need to use Microsoft’s servers to access the startup’s technology, the person said.
