According to local media reports, pro-Bitcoin Argentine President Javier Milei has fired Florencia Mizrahi, head of Argentina’s Federal Taxation Agency (ARCA), amid growing criticism of a new tax regime targeting streamers and influencers in the country.
The tax plan will require digital content creators to report income earned from social media platforms such as YouTube, Instagram and Twitch, including brand deals and advertising revenue.
In a statement on X, Milei’s office said his government will not crack down on digital businesses in the country: “This government will not attack new forms of digital businesses and reiterates its commitment to simplifying the tax system.” ARCA will currently be led by Juan Pazo, a lawyer who was recently appointed Minister of International Economic Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In recent years, Argentina has been battling hyperinflation, which has driven the popularity and adoption of digital assets.
Milei’s economic policies have sparked major debate across the country. While some have praised his measures for reducing inflation and stabilizing the peso, others are concerned about their social impact on the most vulnerable.
Data from Trading Economics shows that in October 2024, Argentina's consumer prices rose 193% year-on-year, marking the sixth consecutive month of deflation and the lowest increase so far this year, down from 209% in September. (Cointelegraph)
