Various DeFi protocols generated a lot of revenue in 2024, with many mature protocols approaching their 2021 highs, while newer platforms have become significant contributors.
Specifically, pump.fun is a leader in the Solana ecosystem. In 2024, the platform generated $313 million in fees, an average of $31 million per month, and an average monthly growth rate of nearly 77%.
In addition, Jito's revenue has also exploded, from $5 million in January to a total revenue of $603 million at the end of the year, an average monthly growth of about 79%.
Meanwhile, Ethena's fees have surged in recent months. In January 2024, Ethena's fees were only $1.7 million, and by the end of the year, Ethena had collected more than $267 million in fees. It is worth noting that more than 54% of Ethena's full-year revenue was generated in the past three months, with an average monthly growth of 150% during this period.
On the other hand, MakerDAO’s revenue far exceeded its previous all-time highs of $12.8 million set in May 2021 and $32.6 million set in April 2024. As of this writing, MakerDAO’s revenue for December last year was close to $40 million, up 38% from the previous month. Over $313 million in fees were generated throughout the year, up 176% compared to 2023. Despite the increase in revenue, the MKR token is down 10% on the year.
For Aave, 2024 marked a recovery, approaching its all-time high. Its December revenue reached $60.9 million, close to its peak of $65.39 million in October 2021. During the year, Aave generated a total of $389 million in fees, an average of $32.4 million per month, with a steady monthly growth rate of 14%.
