Advisers to President-elect Donald Trump are considering ways to reshape the Federal Reserve’s leadership, including naming Fed Governor Bowman as the Fed’s next vice chairman for supervision, according to people familiar with the matter. Earlier, Michael Barr announced on Monday that he would resign as vice chairman for supervision while retaining his seat on the Fed’s board of governors. Meanwhile, advisers have begun drafting a list of possible successors to Chairman Jerome Powell, whose term ends in May 2026. Although Trump chose Powell as chairman during his first term, he has repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with the decision. According to people familiar with the matter, candidates currently being considered by Trump’s advisers to replace Powell include Kevin Hassett, who will serve as director of the White House National Economic Council, former Bush administration officials Larry Lindsay and Mark Summerlin, former World Bank President David Malpass, former Federal Reserve official Kevin Warsh and Bowman.
