The number of cryptocurrency ATMs around the world is approaching a historical high, with the United States accounting for more than 80%

After a turbulent 2023 and a recovery in 2024, the number of crypto ATMs around the world is creeping closer to an all-time high. The trajectory of crypto ATMs changed dramatically in November 2022 after the Terra stablecoin crisis and the FTX crash. On December 1 of that year, the number of crypto ATMs peaked at 39,958, according to Coinatmradar.com. Currently, the total number of these ATMs is only 1,092 fewer than the peak. This is a stark contrast to the downward trend seen in April and July 2023. After hitting an all-time high, the number of crypto ATMs fell by 6,873, reaching a low of 33,085 on July 1, 2023. As of January 11, 2025, there were 38,866 crypto ATMs in operation around the world, according to the data. Of these, 283 crypto ATMs have been installed since the beginning of the year, with 157 added in December alone. A net increase of 404 ATMs was recorded in November, while a decrease of 280 was recorded in October 2024. Bitcoin Depot is the largest operator by number of ATMs, managing 8,486 ATMs worldwide. It is followed by Coinflip with 5,289 ATMs, while Athena Bitcoin ranks third with 3,797 ATMs. Geographic data shows that the United States dominates the field, with 81.3% of crypto ATMs worldwide. Regionally, Europe accounts for 4.3%, Oceania for 4%, and Australia for 3.5%. Of the 38,866 ATMs, the vast majority (38,855) support BTC.
