New York Attorney General files lawsuit seeking to recover $2.2 million in crypto used in alleged job scam

New York Attorney General Letitia James has taken legal action to recover more than $2 million in cryptocurrency that was stolen by scammers who promised remote work opportunities to lure victims into buying cryptocurrency. "Scammers sent text messages to New York residents promising them high-paying, flexible jobs, only to trick them into buying cryptocurrency and then steal it from them," James said in a statement recently. With the assistance of the U.S. Secret Service, James said the stolen cryptocurrency has been frozen and urged people to be wary of text messages from unknown senders, especially suspicious text messages claiming to offer jobs or other opportunities.
