According to PANews, DFINITY has announced the successful completion of the Solenoid upgrade, achieving full decentralization of ICP's edge infrastructure. Previously, the Boundary Nodes were operated by the DFINITY Foundation. Under the new architecture, these nodes have been divided into API Boundary Nodes and HTTP Gateways, which handle request routing and HTTP request conversion, respectively. This change enhances the network's security, scalability, and decentralization.
Currently, ICP has deployed 20 API Boundary Nodes to form its public network edge, while DFINITY continues to operate several HTTP Gateways to ensure a smooth transition. Developers can connect directly to the API Boundary Nodes via the Discovery Library, bypassing the HTTP Gateways to fully leverage the benefits of the new architecture.
