Odaily Planet Daily News Musk published an article on X to clarify the reasonable measures jointly recognized by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) team and the US Treasury Department:
- All government expenditures are required to have a payment classification code, which is a necessary condition for passing financial audits. This is usually blank and almost impossible to pass the audit;
- All payments must also include a reason for payment in the comment field, which is currently blank. Importantly, we have not made any judgment on this reason, but only require some attempt to explain the payment, rather than doing nothing;
- The "prohibited payment" list for entities known to have fraudulent behavior, dead or possibly a cover for terrorist organizations, or individuals who do not meet the requirements of congressional appropriations must be truly implemented and not ignored. In addition, it may currently take up to a year to enter this list, which is too long. This list should be updated at least once a week, if not every day.
The above super obvious and necessary changes are implemented by existing long-term career government employees, not anyone from DOGE. It is ridiculous that these changes do not exist.
Yesterday, I was told that more than $100 billion is currently paid annually for benefits to individuals who do not have a social security number or even a temporary ID number. This is highly suspicious if accurate.
When I asked Treasury if anyone had a rough estimate of what percentage of this number was clear and obvious fraud, the consensus was about half, so $50 billion a year or $1 billion a week. This is completely insane and must be addressed immediately.
