Odaily Planet Daily News Danielle Sassoon, the acting prosecutor for the Southern District of New York, suddenly resigned, which may be related to the Department of Justice's request that she suspend the corruption investigation into New York Mayor Eric Adams. It is not clear who will replace Sassoon as the acting prosecutor.
Sassoon was the lead prosecutor in the case of FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), and has also been responsible for several lawsuits involving the crypto industry. It is reported that Acting US Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove (formerly Trump's criminal defense lawyer) ordered Sassoon to suspend the charges against Adams until the Senate confirms the new prosecutor for the Southern District of New York. Currently, members of Congress will review Trump's nominee for the new prosecutor for the Southern District of New York-former SEC Chairman and Wall Street veteran Jay Clayton. (New York Times)
When Adams took office in 2022, he announced that he would receive his first three months' salary in Bitcoin and promised to make New York a "Bitcoin center." But in September 2024, he was accused of accepting illegal political donations from the Turkish government and was suspected of promoting the opening of a Turkish consulate building without fire safety certification.
