Driven by the strength of its paid artificial intelligence software, OpenAI expects revenue to more than triple this year to $12.7 billion from $3.7 billion last year, according to a person familiar with the matter. In addition, OpenAI expects revenue to continue to grow rapidly, more than doubling to $29.4 billion next year. More than two years since OpenAI launched ChatGPT, the company has launched a series of subscription services for consumers and businesses. Last September, OpenAI said it had 1 million paying users for the corporate version of ChatGPT. As revenue soars, OpenAI is also facing huge costs for the chips, data centers and talent needed to develop cutting-edge artificial intelligence systems. OpenAI does not expect to be cash flow positive until 2029, when it expects revenue to exceed $125 billion, the person said.
