Odaily Planet Daily News Vitalik Buterin published an article "We should talk less about public goods funding and more about open source funding", proposing that in the digital ecosystem, more attention should be paid to "open source funding" rather than "public product funding".
Vitalik pointed out that the term "public goods" is often misunderstood as "goods provided by the government" and is easily abused, while "open source" has a clear definition and is more suitable as the core standard for digital public goods funding. The article emphasizes that many recognized digital public goods (such as open source software, blockchain research, etc.) are open source, so focusing funding on "open source" can avoid the generalization and abuse of the concept of "public goods"
He further stated that funding for open source projects should not be just because of their "open source" attributes, but to support open source projects that are truly valuable to mankind. This is also the core issue that the public product funding mechanism should focus on.
