According to PANews, Bhutan's capital Thimphu has reportedly earned millions in profits from cryptocurrency investments in recent years. Two senior officials confirmed that a portion of these profits has been used to pay government employees' salaries for two years.
Ujjwal Deep Dahal, CEO of Bhutan's sovereign wealth fund, Druk Holding and Investments, revealed plans to explore the use of hydropower for mining and utilizing green cryptocurrencies. The goal is to eventually eliminate the use of fossil fuels in digital currency mining. The fund, which controls Bhutan's sole power generation company, began incorporating cryptocurrencies into its investment portfolio in 2019.
