Odaily Planet Daily News Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin published an article titled "Simplifying the L1", which points out that one of the biggest advantages of Bitcoin is that its protocol is very simple. Historically, Ethereum has often failed to do this (sometimes due to personal considerations), resulting in excessive development expenditures, various security risks, and isolation of R&D culture. Vitalik hopes that Ethereum will be as simple as Bitcoin in five years, including: simplifying the consensus layer, simplifying the execution layer, backward compatibility strategy for VM transition, and simplifying through shared protocol components.
Vitalik concluded that simplicity is similar to decentralization in many ways. Both are upstream of resilience goals, and their benefits will become more and more obvious over time - Bitcoin itself is a good example. Vitalik suggested setting a clear maximum code line number target for Ethereum's long-term specifications to make Ethereum consensus key code close to the simplicity of Bitcoin.
