According to PANews, Starknet has announced the commencement of a Bitcoin staking integration upgrade, temporarily suspending the staking protocol for several hours to complete this significant update. This upgrade will enable Bitcoin holders to participate in Starknet consensus, with specific parameters set as follows: Bitcoin staking weight is established at 0.25, meaning Bitcoin accounts for 25% of the consensus weight, while the remaining 75% is covered by STRK. Initially, the upgrade will support WBTC, LBTC, tBTC, and SolvBTC, with other Bitcoin derivatives potentially added through governance. Additionally, the unstaking period has been reduced from 21 days to 7 days, applicable to both BTC and STRK stakers.
Previously, Starknet announced that the Bitcoin staking feature would be launched on the mainnet on September 30.
