Wintermute research reveals that nearly half of all user authorizations for Ethereum Improvement Proposal 7702 (EIP-7702) are linked to criminal activity, including phishing and fund theft. According to reports, users have activated the feature 1,580,930 times since May 7th of this year, with the Wintermute team flagging 768,275 (48%) as criminally related. This contrasts sharply with Vitalik Buterin's previous claims that the temporary smart contract feature would provide users with "superpowers" and "guardrails." EIP-7702 temporarily converts user signature accounts to smart contract wallets during transactions, aiming to enhance user experience and security. (protos.com)
