According to Foresight News, U.S. Vice President JD Vance has indicated that President Donald Trump is open to rational discussions with China regarding tariffs. Vance urged China to choose a rational path amid the escalating U.S.-China trade war, emphasizing that Trump holds significant leverage. "This will be a delicate negotiation, largely dependent on China's response," Vance stated on Fox News' "Sunday Morning Futures." He mentioned having spoken with Trump over the weekend, noting the President's appreciation for the friendship established with China, while also highlighting the substantial leverage the U.S. holds. Vance expressed hope that this leverage would not need to be used.
In response, China's Ministry of Commerce issued a statement on Sunday, urging the U.S. to cease threatening tariff increases and to engage in further negotiations to resolve outstanding trade issues. Over the past week, China announced new export controls and other measures, heightening tensions, although some of these measures are not set to take effect until November or may not be widely implemented.
