FTX founder SBF posted on the social media platform GETTER, claiming he was being politically persecuted by the Biden administration. He stated that he remained center-left in 2020, but after witnessing Gensler and the Biden administration's actions in the cryptocurrency industry, he shifted to a centrist stance in 2022 and "privately donated tens of millions of dollars to the Republican Party." Shortly thereafter, the SEC and the Department of Justice launched an investigation and prosecution against him. He was arrested the night before a vote on the crypto bill he had promoted and was scheduled to testify before Congress. He cited House Republicans as saying the arrest was intended to prevent him from testifying, and that Congress had requested SEC Chairman Gensler to hand over relevant internal communications, but that he "ultimately lost them." According to SBF's tweet, the above remarks were posted on his behalf by a friend who had access to his account.
