Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, along with independent senator Bernie Sanders, stated that President Trump's move to allow private equity and cryptocurrencies to constitute a larger proportion of the portfolios of ordinary retirees could result in financial losses for millions of Americans. Warren and Sanders stated, "This executive order exposes these hard-earned savings to highly volatile financial instruments while attempting to repackage them as 'alternative assets,' which in reality lack transparency and whose claims of high returns are exaggerated."
