According to Hong Kong media Ming Pao, the Hong Kong District Court today sentenced two 18-year-old youths to a reformatory for committing a HK$2 million USDT fraud. The case revealed that in November last year, a victim went to a money exchange in Tsim Sha Tsui to purchase over HK$2 million worth of USDT. Following instructions, the victim handed the cash to two defendants, who then placed it in the store's safe. After repeatedly inquiring about receiving the USDT and still not receiving it, the victim requested a refund, only to find the cash missing. The investigation revealed that the safe was separated from a nearby shop by only a black sheet of paper, creating a hidden passage for easy cash withdrawal. The two defendants were arrested while attempting to escape through the passage. Judge Cheng Nim-chi stated that although the two defendants were not the masterminds, they played an indispensable role as pawns in the fraud, involving a large sum of money and clearly premeditated. Considering that both were only 18 years old at the time of the crime and had no prior criminal record, a reformatory was more conducive to their rehabilitation than direct imprisonment.
