Kevin Shao, executive president of the Asian Blockchain Gaming Alliance (ABGA), said he is pinning his hopes on several triple-A blockchain game masterpieces that can help propel GameFi into the mainstream and help it out of the bear market.
Speaking to Cointelegraph during Asia Crypto Week, Shao told Cointelegraph that one hurdle preventing mainstream adoption of blockchain games is that current GameFi games typically focus on NFT and earn-to-play (P2E) features, but don’t care about “game performance” and user experience.
In a P2E model, gamers typically buy NFTs to play games and are rewarded with game tokens, which can then be converted into Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), fiat currencies, or stablecoins.
While he admits that these current GameFi games are interesting to many people, Shao said that if blockchain games want to become mainstream in the future, a "balance" should be found to suit the tastes of different users.

In his view, by moving away from existing project models, developers can draw inspiration from the mainstream gaming industry and appeal to people who just play games for fun.
At the ABGA Blockchain Gaming Conference in Singapore, Shao shared several “triple-A” games that he believes can meet the above needs, including Illuvium, Phantom Galaxies and Big Time.
Illuvium is an open-world exploration, NFT creature-collecting, and auto-battle game, Phantom Galaxies is an online third-person RPG that uses NFTs to customize mechs, and Big Time is an RPG monster-hunting action game where NFTs Used to personalize weapons and clothing.
Shao said these projects have “very good teams” behind them and a lot of money from investors, allowing them to do “something differently,” at least “compared to other recent projects.” If they can build a strong user base before the next bull market hits, they will be game-changing for Gamefi.
According to Shao, we will likely see results "in this year or next year."
The Asian Blockchain Game Alliance (ABGA) was established in Singapore on November 25, 2021. It is a non-profit organization co-sponsored by many institutions in the game industry.
