Uniswap V3 will be launched on zkSync.
Governance vote just received over 40 million yes votes and deployment is expected in 4-6 weeks.
Why is this a big deal?
Although the vote runs until October 14, it appears that the decision to deploy on zkSync will pass quietly.
The proposal recently passed the first two phases of Uniswap governance: Consensus Check and Temperature Check.
On-chain voting has achieved the requisite 40 million yes votes and a small number of no votes.
Interestingly, the deployment itself will not be done by the Uniswap team.
Instead, Matter Labs (the team that developed zkSync) applied for an Additional Use Grant waiver, which would allow Matter Labs to use the licensed work for deployment on zkSync.
According to the proposal, the early deployment of Uniswap will "strengthen Uniswap's position as the number one DEX and thought leader." This will help Uniswap establish a first-mover advantage.
More importantly, Uniswap DAO governance will remain on Ethereum L1. zkSync will use an L1L2 communication bridge to support arbitrary messaging for governance.
Matter Labs perfectly timed the proposal.
The zkSync EVM compatible ZK-Rollup will launch on mainnet within 16 days.
However, the deployment of Uniswap V3 will take 4-6 weeks as the team needs time for testing and marketing.
You can expect to hear more about zkSync due to the mainnet launch and the deployment of Uniswap V3.
Additionally, there are over 100 dApps being built on zkSync, including Curve, Argent, Yearn, 1inch, and more. Can it start the warm winter of zkSync DeFi?
Vitalik Buterin called ZK the end-game solution for scaling Ethereum to accelerate retail adoption.
During the ETH Seoul event, he predicted that ZK-Rollup will win the Layer 2 scaling war with Optimistic Rollup.
Currently, the competition for the ZK-Rollup top spot is heating up.
In addition to Starknet, Loopring, Aztec, etc., Polygon has also launched the zkEVM public testnet recently.
Therefore, the deployment of Uniswap V3 on zkSync is a very timely strategic decision.
