During a Binance Chinese Meetup held on the sideline of the Token2049 conference in Dubai, Binance co-founder Yi He addressed the legal situation of Changpeng Zhao (CZ), providing reassurance regarding his pending sentencing in the United States (US).
Despite the looming legal consequences, she described CZ's stance as "largely peaceful."
The company's newsfeed added:
"CZ's current standing in the US is largely peaceful and past regulatory pressures have been internally anticipated. She believes the existing situation to be the most optimal outcome given the circumstances."
This update was shared during the Token2049 conference, a significant event for cryptocurrency enthusiasts and industry professionals.
Her remarks followed CZ's agreement to a plea deal, resulting in his resignation from Binance and a substantial forfeiture by the company totalling $4.3 billion.
CZ, facing a potential sentence of up to 10 years, is scheduled to receive his final sentence on 30 April, with sentencing guidelines indicating a more probable term of 12 to 18 months.
During the upcoming sentencing, Judge Richard Jones will convene in the US District Court for the Western District of Washington to preside over what promises to be one of the most significant legal events in the crypto sphere since the trial and sentencing of former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF).
Moe Vela, a former Director of Administration for then-Vice President Joe Biden, expressed that:
"I would say [these cases] are not comparable from a charges perspective, but they are extremely comparable from the perspective that the [Justice Department], the SEC and the federal government are making it very clear that they are not going to tolerate nefarious behaviour"
Binance Co-Founder Outlines Regulatory Confidence
Yi He explored the broader ramifications for Binance's regulatory stance, emphasizing the proactive approach necessary for navigating regulatory landscapes effectively.
These efforts are evident from Binance's recent acquisition of a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) license in Dubai, marking a significant stride in solidifying its commitment to local regulatory compliance.
The procurement of the VASP license aligns with substantial changes within Binance's organisational structure.
Following CZ's resignation, Richard Teng assumed leadership, paving the way for a fresh strategic direction.
Under Richard's guidance, Binance has undergone restructuring, including the establishment of a new board of directors.
Yi He Sets Record Straight on Connection with CZ
Yi He, who is reportedly the mother of at least two of CZ's three children, has clarified that they are presently not involved romantically but maintain a close friendship.
Despite this, she remains a shareholder in Binance, ensuring her continued involvement in company decisions.
CZ has faced legal hurdles, as evidenced by recent documents.
His request for international travel clearance, prompted by a family health issue, garnered heightened scrutiny from American authorities.
Despite these challenges, Yi He's statements suggest a sense of stability regarding CZ's situation and Binance's future prospects.
X (previously known as Twitter) users teased her latest post on X in response to CZ's post about artificial intelligence (AI) voice recognition, stating that her heart emoji was romantic.
Travel Request to UAE Denied by Judge
Currently, CZ resides in the US on a $175-million bond, albeit with travel limitations.
He has made two appeals for permission to journey to Dubai, his place of residence, due to a medical issue concerning one of his children.
However, these requests were met with efforts by the US Attorney's Office to confiscate his passports.
CZ possesses Canadian citizenship and is also a citizen of the United Arab Emirates.
